The 9th International Safety Conference and Awards 2019, the annual event of OSHAssociation UK – Nigeria Region was held at sheraton hotel Abuja recently and was a great success.
Senator Chris Ngige, Honourable Minister of Labour and Employment, representated by the Director Occupational Safety and Health applauded OSHAssociation’s continual Commitment towards the advancement of Occupational Safety and Health in Nigeria and beyond. “In view of the emerging concern on Occupational Safety and Health, the pace of global integration has dramatically increased”, the Minister said during his speech.
The conference chairman, Engr. Abubakar Aliyu, Honourable Minister of Works and Housing appreciated all the delegates from various organisations and countries for participating in the conference to discuss on the theme: The Impact of Globalisation on Occupational Safety and Health, he further stated the need for every organisation to consider safety at workplaces as a value.
The chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, Nigerian Air Force also narrated during his speech the need for Nigerians and major stakeholders in various industries to imbibe the conciousness of safety at work, by ensuring safety culture at all levels, even at home environment. “Health and Safety is a key issue, we are ready to support OSHAssociation achieve its vision and goals in Nigeria”, the chief said.
From the Nigerian Navy, the chief of transformation expressed his happiness over the conference and congratulated the management of OSHAssociation for a job well done towards ensuring safety awarness in Nigeria.
The Corps Marshal Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi, Federal Road Safety Commission rep. expressed his concerns over the high rate of accidents in our roads and sought the cooperation of Nigerians to ensure ZERO crashes on our roads; others included Mag. Georg Eder, MD/CEO Avsatel Communications Ltd, Abubakar Bello, National President Mazi Association of Nigeria and other major keynote speakers.
The lead paper presentation was presented by Dr. Okoroafor Comfort, followed by other key speakers such as Engr. Thomas Bismark, OSHAssociation Regional President Ghana, Prof. Rabiu A. Magaji, Dr. Japh Azubuine Senate Member Bayero University Kano.
Technical panel discussion on the role of the government to ensure best practices on Occupational Safety and Health was coordinated by Prof. Rabiu A. Magaji.
In line with the Agenda of the event, the Fellowship Committee presented seasoned and top executives for Conferment of Fellowship Awards of the Association, considering their commitments and drives towards health and safety development in Nigeria as Fellows and Members of the Association to carry on and ensure safety advocacy in the public and private sectors.
