So many states in Nigeria have experienced flood related hazards and still will do if precautionary measures are not taken. The Federal Ministry of Environment and Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) in conjunction with Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) warned that this year’s rain will threaten communities living along river banks because of the heaviness of the downpours.
In response to that report, Nasarawa state government is taking precautionary measures to curb the flood menace sweeping its environs and causing havoc to its citizens.
During a campaign tagged “Education and Awareness Campaign on Disaster Risk Management” in Garaku, kokona Local Government Area of Nasarawa state, the Executive Governor, Abdullahi Sule a distinguised Fellow of OSHAssociation, revealed that his administration will be involved in more awareness campaign for its residents throughout the state, to educate everyone on the methods to prepare, avert and prevent flood incidents.
The Governor went ahead to appeal to everyone, in consideration of the recent flood related incidents in the state to take precautionary measures by adequate disposal of waste/refuse, by keeping waterways and drainages clean, in other to avoid incessant flood.
Without an iota of doubt the distinguished governor’s vision to seeing a safer Nasarawa State will be achieved if the precautions are followed seriously.
